From the Chief Health Officer's Desk
May is definitely one of my favorite months. It is an exciting time of transition from spring into summer, and for many it is a time of major celebrations. May is also Mental Health Awareness Month. In addition to the outstanding mental health resources offered by University Human Resources, there are also webinars and other events offered through the Michigan Medicine Department of Psychiatry that cover topics such as maternal mental health, how to identify youth who are struggling and research breakthroughs on bipolar disorder.
Unfortunately nicer weather also means tick season is upon us. Some ticks spread diseases like Lyme disease, which has been on the rise in Michigan in recent years. You should perform tick checks after spending time in grassy or wooded areas and take action if you find a tick on you or your pet.

— U-M MODEL OF WELL-BEING SPOTLIGHT —
Mental Well-being: Experiencing and managing a range of stressors, thoughts, and emotions in everyday life.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a good time to prioritize your well-being and connect with support to help you thrive at work and beyond. U‑M offers confidential counseling options for faculty and staff through the Faculty and Staff Counseling and Consultation Office (FASCCO). You can also explore the university's Mental and Emotional Health resources for counseling contacts, mental health education, presentations and practical stress-reduction tips. Additional support is available through the Eisenberg Family Depression Center, the Mary A. Rackham Institute Psychological Clinic and the University Center for the Child and Family.
Benefits-eligible faculty and staff (and enrolled spouses/OQAs) can access mindfulness videos and self-guided programs through the MHealthy Portal, powered by Asset Health. To build connection at work, check out the Be Kind Be Well resources and, for a quick reset, try the Nature Rx app to find campus spots to relax and unplug.
